About South Mountain Church

South Mountain Church is a Christian church that relies on the Bible as the primary lens and authority for all that we teach and do. We are associated with the Baptist Convention of New York and the Willow Creek Association.  South Mountain Church began monthly services on Easter 2006 with a few dozen people meeting in the Millburn Middle School. The church was birthed out of a vision of Pastor Bob Griner and several other families who wanted to start a relevant, life-changing church that was based on the Love of Jesus Christ as expressed in word and in action.  Our no strings-attached love for our community has been expressed in diverse and eye-opening ways. They have included KidStuf, a FREE children's theatre for grades K-5th which began in 2005 and had over 14 different shows produced every 2 weeks for 9 months. We've sponsored a FREE gasoline giveaway to local residents which involved $1000 worth of gas given away at a local station. We serve busy commuters breakfast bars at train stations. We've sponsored the kid's corner in street fairs by doing face painting, supplying family games, and doing pumpkin painting. We've also organized a local park refurbishment to repaint its pavilion, rebuild its picnic tables, and reconstruct its basketball goal. We mobilized over a 100 volunteers to help repaint the Millburn Middle School hallways and classrooms during the summer of 2006, and completely re-landscaped the front of the school in 2007.
